About the department

Department of Sociology of Hijli College is pretty old department . The general course offered from the beginning of the college establishment. The Honours level was introduced on the year of 2007 with the help of Prof Jyoti Prasad Chatterjee. Teaching in the department has been focussed on the applied components of Sociological knowledge. This is reflected in the fact that the department attracts students from neighbouring blocks like Kharagpur, Keshiyari, Medinipur etc.

The department organized seminar, symposium, wall magazine per year and a educational excursion for student's entertainment.

It has been almost 12 year since the department was upgraded and during this short period over 150 students have been pass out from here. Our students are hold first class first position in the Vidyasagar University and they are placed in various academic,research institution, health organization, NGOs,and in different service sector in West Bengal and out side.
